About

I have been drawing and painting for many years. The figure has always been my favorite subject. A figure drawing class is typically three hours in length and during that time I am challenged to draw what I see, not what I think I see. When I make this shift in seeing, striving is set aside.

At times I sense the pose of the model in my own body and this sensation helps me understand where the weight is or which part of the body is most relaxed. My aim is not only to depict the figure accurately but more importantly to capture the gesture.

I studied fine art at the Ruud Wackers Academie in Amsterdam.

Drawing and painting are lifetime practices. Pursuing art means getting out of my own way, ceasing to paint for a result and more about letting the eye and hand do their work.

I continue because the practice nourishes me regardless of the outcomes.
